LINCOLN–(NWU Athletics Oct. 29)–Nebraska Wesleyan is ranked No. 8 in the D3hoops.com Preseason Men’s Basketball Division III Top 25 poll that was released on Tuesday (Oct. 29). NWU received 349 total points to sit 8th in the poll after ending the year ranked 7th in 2018-19.
Swarthmore is the No. 1 team receiving 16 first place votes and 614 points following their runner-up finish in 2018-19. Last season’s NCAA III National Champion, Wisconsin-Oshkosh, is the No. 2 team in the poll with eight first place votes and 563 points. North Central (Ill.) received the final first place vote to come in at No. 3. The D3hoops.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members across the country.
Nebraska Wesleyan returns three starters and four players that averaged in double figures from the team that went 27-2 one year ago advancing to the second round of the NCAA III Tournament. Seven seniors are on the Prairie Wolves roster for head coach Dale Wellman who enters his 6th season leading the Prairie Wolves.
The Prairie Wolves are scheduled to face two nationally-ranked opponents during the first month of the season. In the season opener at the Wisconsin-Superior Tournament, NWU takes on 12th ranked St. John’s of Minnesota. Later in the month at the Midway Classic in Chicago, the Prairie Wolves have a rematch with 15th-ranked St. Thomas, the team that knocked NWU out of the NCAA III Tournament last year.
NWU begins the season tonight (Oct. 29) with an exhibition game at NCAA Division I College of Charleston in Charleston, S.C.
