GIRLS STATE GOLF: Southwest, Lutheran Capture Gold

NORFOLK, Neb.–(KFOR Oct. 16)–For the second straight year, Lincoln Southwest captured the Class A state team championship Tuesday afternoon at the NSAA Girls State Golf Meet at the Norfolk Country Club.

The Silver Hawks shot a two-round team total of 665, shooting 340 in the second round to capture the team title.  North Platte finished second with a final round total of 347 and shot 680 overall.  Millard North finished third and Lincoln Pius X was fourth.

Individually, Southwest’s Brynn Sundquist tied for second with Pius X’s Nicole Kolbas.  Southwest teammates Neely Alder and Kate Strickland finished fifth and sixth respectively.  Strickland, though, was tied with North Platte golfers Baylee Steele and Karsen Morrison.  Omaha Westside sophomore Kaitlyn Hanna won the Class A individual title for the second straight time.

In Class C out at the Lake Maloney Golf Club in North Platte, it was a much tighter race in the team standings.  Lincoln Lutheran won the team title, edging out Lincoln Christian with the difference being the round one total.

The Warriors shot a opening round mark of 378 to the Crusaders’ 384.  Both teams each scored a total of 387 in the final round.  Lutheran had a two-round total of 765, to Christian’s 771.

Senior Taylor Van Ostrand finished fourth overall for Lincoln Christian in the individual team standings by shooting a two-round total of 168, while Lutheran junior Grace Fahleson was tied for 7th and shot a 173.
