LINCOLN–(KFOR Oct. 24)–Lincoln Southwest managed to fend off a a Lincoln High football team looking to pull off an upset to end the regular season.
The Silver Hawks counted on junior running back Telo Arsiaga, who ran for 224 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-27 victory over the Links Thursday night at Seacrest Field, in a game heard on KFOR.
The win gave Southwest (5-4) a district runner-up and a spot in the Class A football playoffs that start Nov. 1.
Arsiaga got the Silver Hawks on the board in the first quarter with an 8-yard run, before Lincoln High countered with a touchdown from junior lineman Isaac Montgomery, who lined up as a fullback to score from 6-yards out.
The Links took control at 13-6 on a 39-yard scoring run from Tyrese Jones. Southwest countered and took control on touchdown runs of 45 and 42 yards from Arsiaga. On the next Lincoln High drive, Jones raced 63-yards for a touchdown with 4:03 left before halftime to tie the game at 20.
Arsiaga scored on a 36-yard run and quarterback Laken Harnly later scored on a 5-yard run to put Southwest up 34-20 late in the third quarter.
Lincoln High (1-8) later pulled to within one, when DaRon Givens scored on a 26-yard run. But the ensuing kick was returned by Southwest’s Grant Miller for a 95-yard touchdown to seal the win.
