Football Preview: Lincoln High

LINCOLN–(KFOR Aug. 13)–After a three-year run into the state football playoffs, which included a city championship, the Lincoln High football team is now looking to rebuild the program.

The loss of quarterback Cedric Case (now playing football at Texas State), running backs Isaiah Alford (now a member of the Nebraska wrestling team) and CJ Jones, along with receivers Jaden Horton and Morgan Perry due to graduation will affect the skill positions.  But Links head coach Mark Macke says this new group of players are still wanting to go out and be successful.

“A lot of them haven’t played much of varsity football,” Macke told our media partner 10/11 Sports. “I’m excited for them and they’re excited for each other.  They’re hungry.”

Macke says they will stick with a spread offense and try to use an uptempo style.  Lincoln High opens the season August 30, hosting Bellevue West.

Season Outlook: This marks the first time in three years that Lincoln High offensively won’t be guided by all-state quarterback Cedric Case, or have the running power in Isaiah Alford, CJ Jones, Morgan Perry and Jaden Horton.  Only two returning starters to this year’s team from last year’s state playoff team.  The Links have some experience, but developing younger talent will be key to having a successful campaign.
