LINCOLN–(KFOR Oct. 4)–Ethan Zager burned up the field turf at Lincoln Pius X’s Aldrich Field Friday night with two big runs.
The senior returned a punt 75 yards for a touchdown and ran for a 67-yard score on a double reverse play to help Lincoln Lutheran to a 20-7 win over Lincoln Christian in high school football heard on KFOR FM103.3/1240AM.
The win for Lutheran also means retaining the Spirit Sword for another year. It’s shared between both schools as part of their yearly rivalry game.
Zager had a 56-yard kickoff return to set up a 27-yard scoring drive to open the game, before his 75-yard punt return. Christian then responded with a 60-yard scoring drive, which was topped by Alex Koch’s 19-yard touchdown run to put the Crusaders on the board, trailing 13-7 with 2:43 left before halftime.
Christian defensively prevented Lutheran from scoring until Zager’s double reverse play run of 67 yards in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
Lutheran did get two key interceptions in the game from Garret Hoefs and Max Bartels that limited any scoring threats from Christian. In the game, the Crusaders had 289 yards of offense compared to the Warriors’ 196 yards.
